Paper and Printing Tips
- For correct page turns, ensure that
- even-numbered pages go on the left,
- odd-numbered pages go on the right.
- To make your printouts look really good, quality paper is essential.
- Use very opaque paper so that music does not show through from the rear side.
- It should be fairly stiff, so the music stands upright on the music stand.
- Avoid standard photocopy paper, it is too thin. Paper of about 100gsm (26lb/ream) is ideal.
- Resolution of 600 dpi gives adequate results, 1200 dpi is better.
- With a laser printer, the ink will not run should the music become wet.
Brass players know about soggy music!
- Comparing your printout with a commercial copy which looks particularly good is always an excellent idea!
- To make an A4 size sheets of 4 folded pages, use an A3 sized page,
prefolded in half to make a double-sided A4 sheet.
Try it. The result will depend on the individual printer.
Obviously, better results will be obtained when the paper flows in a direct line through the printer.
